Susane at book fair in Alexandria Mall

Hi. I’m Susane!!!

From the very first glimpse of a Lavallais family on the 1850 census on a microfilm machine in the Alexandria Historical and Genealogical Library in Alexandria, Louisiana, approximately twenty years ago, I’ve just been amazed at the wonder of witnessing my families living their lives long ago.

My Mission

Because of some of the things I’ve learned, I needed a way to share it with my family. Several do research, but a lot don’t. I’d like to pass on the methods and resources I’ve used as a novice in this field, to my family and anyone else who is interested in researching their lineage. I’d had no prior experience doing it. It’s been a trial and error process for me, and if I could cast some light for someone else, I’d be honored to do that.

My intention was to write a non-fiction book about my genealogical findings. However, with my research, it seems like I’ve never come to a point where I feel I’ve finished. There’s always one more brick wall to tear down. Therefore, I’ve decided to share it bit by bit, while still working on my road blocks. I intend to cover both sides of my family, the Lavallais and the Augustines, as well as, their relatives and friends.

My Background

I attended Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana and graduated from Northwestern University, Natchitoches, Louisiana with a B.A. degree in Accounting. I’ve worked in various fields, including a loan packager with a non-profit organization, a supervisor at a telecommunication company, a high school business teacher, a real estate agent, and several business ventures. I’ve authored two fiction novels, Waters of the River Red-A Novel and Loving Josephine, Book II in the Waters of the River Red Series and two short stories, White Surprise and Beads of Dreams. Both books are based in Central Louisiana, mostly Avoyelles Parish.
